The 2008 Election Study

The 2008 election was held on November 8. The result was a change of government from a Labour-led to a National-led government. The 2008 Election Study has been in the field, with the end of data collection likely by the end of January 2009. It includes module 3 of the Comparative Study of Electoral Systems (CSES) programme. The sample size will be about 3000, with Maori electorate and younger person over-samples.

Support predominantly comes from various sources within the University of Auckland and the Electoral Commission, with some further funding from the University of Houston, the New Zealand Treasury, and AUT University. Access to the data will be restricted to the collaborators and funders in the first instance, with a dataset anticipated ready for analysis in March 2009.

Basic frequencies will be on the web from about the middle of 2009. Tabular data will be available on a cost-recovery basis from March-April onwards for those who wish to contact the collaborators.
